  • The skeletal system, joints and ligaments
  • Skeletal muscles and lever systems
  • History of the method and its creator Joseph Pilates
  • Anatomy and application of Breathing to the Pilates Method
  • Centering
  • Introduction to and analysis of Pre-Pilates Exercises

MODULE 2 REHABILITATION 2

This module takes a more detailed look at the fundamental anatomy of the abdominal and respiratory muscles and their relevance to the Pilates method. It begins demystifying and explaining stability in the body and how the Pilates method achieves this.
Lectures include:

  • Abdominal muscles and muscles of respiration
  • The concept of Centering
  • The spine and spinal/core stability
  • Analysis of pre Pilates exercises and stretches

MODULE 3 REHABILITATION 3

Continuing on from Module 2, this course focuses on the pelvis and spine while practical stability sessions look at common postural problems, and issues around the pelvis. The repertoire of the Pre-Pilates exercises is increased to a total of 39 (including Modules 1 and 2).

Modifications and variations will be addressed for each exercise.
Lectures include:

  • Functional spine and spinal stability
  • Common spinal problems
  • Common postural faults
  • The pelvis
  • Problems around the pelvis
  • Analysis of Pilates exercises and stretches

MODULE 5 REFORMER 1

Prior to commencement of modules 5-7, Module 1 needs to be completed if you are not undertaking rehabilitation courses. Lectures include:

  • The Hip

  • Lower leg problems
  • Problems with the feet, with a leading Podiatrist

You will also be introduced to 20 exercises which will provide you with a solid repertoire on which to base your beginner classes. Exercises focus on both the upper and lower parts of the body.

MODULE 6 REFORMER 2

Presentations include:

  • A fascinating lecture delving into the mechanics of and associated problems of the shoulder
  • The anatomy of the elbow, wrist and hand
  • The latest research into the nervous system
  • Alternative therapies addressed by relevant specialists in their field
  • Analysis of Pilates exercises and stretches

16 new syllabus exercises are introduced in this module, which will allow you to advance your individual clients and group reformer classes with more challenging variations. New exercises will develop and challenge core control and extremity strength. Advanced teaching, particularly cueing skills, will be emphasised to enhance the accuracy and quality of movement.

MODULE 7 REFORMER 3

This module takes an interesting look at the myofascial anatomy trains, as outlined by Tom Myers. The relevance of this research is explained and then used as a base to further explore bodywork therapies, such as Yoga and myofascial release. Lectures will include:

  • Myofascial neck
  • Yoga
  • The shoulder; including rotator cuff and scapula stability
