Improve your bottom line through your most valuable asset, YOUR PEOPLE

Stress is a word we are all familiar with, and many of us are equally familiar with the symptoms as we suffer them everyday ourselves.
Well known symptoms include:

  • Headaches
  • Sleep disturbances
  • Difficulty in concentrating
  • Short temper
  • Upset stomach
  • Job dissatisfaction
  • Low morale

On the basis of current research (NIOSH & other organisations), it is also now widely believed that job stress increases the risk for development of back & upper extremity musculoskeletal disorders.

How does this affect me?

Studies also show that stressful working conditions are actually associated with increased absenteeism, tardiness, & intentions by workers to quit their jobs- all of which have a negative effect on the bottom line. Unfortunately this is not an isolated disease, 43% of all adults suffer adverse health effects from stress. 75-90% of all physician office visits are for stress related ailments & complaints. Stress is linked to the 6 leading causes of death - Heart Disease, Cancer, Lung Ailments, Accidents, Cirrhosis of the Liver & Suicide (source: NIOSH). According to data from the Bureau of Labour statistics (USA), workers who must take time off work because of stress, anxiety, or a related disorder will be off the job for about 20 days.

The Journal of Occupational & Environmental Medicine states that health care expenditures are nearly 50% greater for workers who report high levels of stress.

What can I do to reduce this?

Fortunately it's not all bad news! Recent studies of so called 'healthy organisations' suggest that policies benefiting worker health also benefit the bottom line. Research demonstrates that healthy employees are more productive. It doesn't matter whether the health risk comes from the workplace or is an individual problem, the effect is the same- an unwell employee is less vibrant, less creative & less productive. It benefits both the employer & the individuals if the workforce is fit & active.

How the Melissa Laing Pilates Studio will benefit Your Company

Pilates is a mind-body exercise, incorporating the benefits of physical activity, functional movement patterning, and mind & body awareness, relaxation & breathing techniques. All of these techniques help improve & maintain the overall wellbeing of employees, both mentally & physically. Pilates is excellent for stress relief & management. It emphasises the importance of a relaxed breathing style through correct posture & body alignment.

Pilates is also helpful in the prevention & recuperation of injuries. It restores muscle balance, thereby improving muscle control & stability.
